Punjab & Haryana High Court Recruitment 2026: Notification, Vacancies, Eligibility & Apply Online

The notice came out on 3 October, and the online form opened on 7 October at 4 PM. Most aspirants are searching for it as the Punjab and Haryana High Court recruitment. That is understandable, since the High Court’s own recruitment society is running it. The jobs themselves, though, are spread across the district courts of the state.

SSSC hasn’t given an exam date. It has only said that a demo test will go up on its website 15 days before the exam, so treat that as your early warning. Check the site and your email, spam folder included, every few days.

Punjab and Haryana High Court Clerk Vacancy 2026

Of the 1,270 posts, 811 were already vacant on 31 August 2026. The other 459 are expected to fall vacant by 28 February 2027. Seats are reserved for SC, BC/OBC, EWS, PwBD, ex-servicemen, freedom fighter dependants and sportspersons of Punjab, and some are set aside for women.

The count isn’t fixed. As per the notification, posts can go up or down depending on what is vacant when the merit list is made and postings happen. One more thing: if you belong to a reserved category from Haryana or any other state, you’ll have to apply as General. Reservation, age relaxation and the lower fee are only for Punjab residents.

Punjab and Haryana High Court Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026

You need a BA, BSc or an equivalent degree from a recognised university. You must also have passed matriculation with Punjabi as a subject, and you should be able to work on a computer, which is tested later in the CPT.

Your degree has to be complete by 4 November 2026, the closing date. Final-year students waiting for results should read that line twice.

On age, General candidates must be between 18 and 37 as on 1 January 2026. Punjab candidates get the following relaxation:

Category (Punjab)Relaxation in upper age
SC5 years
BC/OBC5 years
PwBD10 years
Ex-servicemenYears of military service + 3 years
Govt/court employeesUpper limit of 45 years

If you already work for a government or a court, get your No Objection Certificate sorted now. SSSC can cancel your candidature if you can’t show it when asked.

Punjab and Haryana High Court Clerk Salary 2026

New Clerks are placed at ₹29,200 in Level 5, under the Punjab pay scales for appointments made on or after 17 July 2020. That is the pay scale, not what lands in your bank account. The in-hand amount depends on allowances and deductions, and the notice doesn’t give a figure. So be wary of any website quoting an exact take-home salary.

SC/BC/OBC/ESM/EWS of Punjab₹550₹160₹710
PwBD of Punjab₹550₹325₹875

How to Apply for Punjab and Haryana High Court Recruitment 2026?

  1. Go to www.sssc.gov.in and open “Clerk District Courts of Punjab”.
  2. Read the notification and the 1997 recruitment rules linked on the site. It’s dry reading, but your category rules sit in there.
  3. Register with an email ID and mobile number you’ll keep using. Every update comes to them.
  4. Fill in the form. Check your category and sub-category twice, because they can’t be changed later.
  5. Upload a passport-size photo (not older than a month, white background) and your signature. Keep a webcam ready too, since the form takes a live photo.
  6. Pay by net banking, card or UPI.
  7. Print the form and keep five copies of the same photo for later stages.

Documents Required for Punjab Court Clerk 2026

The notice doesn’t give one fixed checklist. For the form itself you need the photo, signature, email, phone number and a way to pay online.

The paperwork comes later, at the document check. Keep your degree and matriculation certificates ready, along with any category certificate issued by the Punjab authorities and valid on the closing date. EWS candidates need an Income & Assets certificate valid for 2026–27. BC candidates may be asked for a non-creamy-layer undertaking, sportspersons need a gradation certificate, and serving employees need their NOC.

Punjab and Haryana High Court Clerk Selection Process 2026

There are four stages: the CBT, the Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), checking of original documents with an interaction, and the final select list.

The part worth understanding early is that the CPT adds nothing to your rank. It is pass or fail. Your place in the final list depends only on your CBT score, and if two candidates tie, the older one goes ahead.

Punjab and Haryana High Court Clerk Exam Pattern 2026

SubjectTypeQuestionsMarks
General KnowledgeObjective5050
English CompositionObjective2020
English CompositionSubjectiveEssay of 150 words (10), letter (5), precis (5), Punjabi-to-English translation (10)30
Total2 hours 100

A wrong objective answer costs a quarter mark, so blind guessing doesn’t pay. To qualify you need 33% in each subject and 40% overall. Treat that as the floor, because the merit list goes by actual scores.

Important: The essay, letter, precis and translation are typed on the computer within the same two hours. Also, this subjective part is checked only if you score at least 33% in GK.

If the exam is held in more than one shift, the objective scores are normalised.

Punjab and Haryana Court Clerk Syllabus 2026

SSSC hasn’t published a topic-wise syllabus. Going by the paper, these are the areas we’d suggest covering (our reading of the pattern, not an official list):

  • GK: current affairs, Punjab GK, polity, history, geography, economy and general science
  • English: grammar, vocabulary and usage
  • Writing: essay, formal letter, precis and Punjabi-to-English translation

Computer Proficiency Test for Punjab Court Clerk

Candidates shortlisted after the CBT take the CPT in two parts. The first is a 10-minute spreadsheet test out of 10, where you need at least 4. Your English typing is checked only if you clear it.

For typing, the bar is 30 words per minute, worked out as (words typed − mistakes) ÷ 10. Some PwBD candidates can seek an exemption by applying with the required certificates within 15 days of the CBT result.

How to Prepare for Punjab Court Clerk Exam 2026?

GK and English make up your entire merit score, so most of your time should go there. Typing matters twice, once in the subjective paper and again in the CPT. Here’s how we’d weigh things:

AreaOur suggested priorityReason
General KnowledgeHigh50 marks, and the gate for English subjective
English objectiveHigh20 marks, negative marking
Essay, letter, precisHigh20 marks, typed
Punjabi-to-English translationHigh10 marks
TypingHighSubjective paper and 30 WPM in CPT
SpreadsheetModerateOnly 4 out of 10 needed
Mock testsHighSpeed under time pressure

For GK, a daily newspaper and a monthly round of current affairs revision is enough for most people. Keep separate notes on Punjab, as state questions are easy to skip while studying.

In English objective, work on error spotting, synonyms, antonyms and sentence improvement. With negative marking in play, leave what you’re unsure about.

Practise the writing section on a keyboard, not on paper. One 150-word essay and one formal letter a week is a fair start. For precis, cut a passage to about a third of its length and keep the main point. For translation, take a short Punjabi news item and put it into plain English; simple, correct sentences are safer than fancy ones.

Aim for 35 to 40 WPM so that exam nerves don’t drop you below 30. Learn basic Excel as well: formulas, formatting, sorting and filtering. Finally, sit for full timed mocks, including the SSSC demo once it’s out, and use them to find out how much time you need for the typed English section.

Final Takeaway
