Punjab Civil Service Eligibility: Age Limits

For the PCS exam, the PPSC has set a certain age limit. The exam is open to candidates between the ages of 21 and 37. However, the age limit and relaxation varies depending on the candidate’s category.

What is the Educational Qualification under PPSC Eligibility Criteria 2020-21?

The detailed PPSC eligibility criteria for educational qualification has been given below:

  • The candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution.
  • The candidate may be permitted to take a preliminary examination while studying for the qualifying degree. However, the candidate shall be required to produce proof of qualifying the degree course for being eligible to take the Main Competitive Examination during that year.
  • No candidate shall be eligible for appearing in the Preliminary Competitive Examination unless he/she has passed the Matriculation Examination with Punjabi as one of the compulsory or elective subjects or any other equivalent examination in the Punjabi language, which may be specified by the Government from time to time.
  • For the purpose of eligibility for the exam, the expression “recognized university” or “institution” shall have the same meaning, as assigned to it in the Punjab Civil Services (General and Common Conditions of Service) Rules, 1994.

PPSC Eligibility Criteria 2020-21 – Nationality

The details of the PPSC eligibility criteria of nationality has been given below:

  • A candidate should be a:
    • Citizen of India
    • Citizen of Nepal
    • Subject of Bhutan
    • Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the Ist January. 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India
    • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
  • Provided that a candidate other than the candidates possessing Indian nationality shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Competent Authority as notified Punjab Civil Service.

Punjab Civil Service(PCS) Exam Pattern

The exam includes three stages:

  1. Prelims
  2. PPSC Mains
  3. PPSC interview

The patterns for the two exams are different. The aspirants must have a thorough knowledge of both.

The Punjab Civil Service (PCS) exam is an objective test with two 200-marks papers. The Prelims test lasts 2 hours and includes Papers I and II.
